El Maton Texas
El Maton is an unincorporated community in Matagorda County, Texas.
El Maton is in the areas of Farm to Market Road 1095, 459, and
State Highway 35, along the Union Pacific Railroad. El Maton is
twelve miles southwest of Bay City in western Matagorda County.
In 1934 El Maton became a stop on the St. Louis, Brownsville and
Mexico Railway, which in 1956 became the Missouri Pacific. As
early as 1915 it had a post office. Currently its post office is
located on State Highway 35. It is the current home of Tidehaven
Independent School District.
Tidehaven Independent School District serves area students an is a
consolidated school district, which encompasses the communities of
Ashby, Blessing, Buckeye, Clemville, El Maton, Markham, and
Midfield. TISD has been in existence since the 1949-1950 school
year. Schools in the Tidehaven ISD are Tidehaven High School,
Tidehaven Intermediate, Blessing Elementary and Markham Elementary.
Tidehaven High School has over 200 Students. Tidehaven High School is
located at 144 FM 1095 in El Maton, TX. THS is located between Bay
City, TX and Blessing, TX right off Hwy 35 at the intersection of FM
1095. The high school has athletic programs and is the home of the
Tidehaven Tigers and Tigerettes.
Tidehaven Intermediate School is located on 2469 FM 459 in El Maton,
TX. At the intersection of Hwy 35 and FM 1095 go south on FM 1095 in
front of Tidehaven High School, cross the railroad tracks, turn right
on FM 459 for about 1 mile. School is on the right
